Israeli actress Gal Gadot, who has lived in the United States for almost 12 years, said on Israeli television on election night that she plans to move back to Israel with her husband and their four daughters, and that the family is building a house there. She made the remarks on a special election-night edition of Channel 12’s satirical show Eretz Nehederet (“A Wonderful Country”) on Tuesday, Oct. 27, after flying in to vote, The Jerusalem Post and The Jewish Chronicle reported.

The Instagram account Jewish Breaking News shared a clip from the broadcast, writing that Gadot “returned to Israel to vote” and said she “will be moving back due to rising antisemitism in the United States.”

The sketch

Gadot appeared opposite comedian Yuval Semo as Asher, the show’s outspoken taxi driver, in a sketch about the tens of thousands of Israelis who returned from abroad to vote. “So, did you come back to vote? Or to be an artichoke on The Masked Singer?” Asher asked. “No, I came to vote,” she answered. When he called her “a Zionist” and “a patriot,” she replied, “If not now, when?”, the words of the sage Hillel the Elder, according to both reports.

In the same conversation, Gadot spoke about life as an Israeli in Hollywood. “It’s hard these days to be an Israeli abroad,” she said. “There’s a lot of hate. I try to explain to them that what you see from there isn’t what we see from here. And what we see here, you don’t see there.” The Jewish Chronicle reported that she said she often wears a Covid-style face mask in public because of anti-Zionist heckling. She said she intends to return with her husband, Jaron Varsano, and their four daughters, three of whom were born in the United States.

The segment was part of a comedy program, and the reports did not give a date for the family’s move.

Voting and Bar-Ilan

Earlier on Tuesday, Gadot posted a video of herself voting and urged Israelis to “go out and exercise your most basic, most important, the most democratic right,” The Jewish Chronicle reported. She said she was “voting for change” but did not name the party she chose. The night before, on Monday, Oct. 26, she received an honorary doctorate from Bar-Ilan University, where she spoke about mutual responsibility and the challenges Israel has faced since Oct. 7, 2023, according to the Chronicle.

Gadot, a former Israel Defense Forces soldier and Miss Israel 2004, rose to international fame as Wonder Woman and has starred in the Fast & Furious franchise.
