Poll: Which Bukharian-Built Jerusalem Landmark Would You Most Like to Visit?
Open House Jerusalem is opening three Bukharian-built landmarks this month. Which one would you visit first?
This month’s Open House Jerusalem festival includes three sites built by Bukharian Jews, and a separate guided walk of the Bukharian Quarter runs again Tuesday, Oct. 20. Here is what each tour covers, according to the festival program and the tour listing.
- Beit Yehudayoff, the “Messiah’s Palace” at 10 HaBukharim Street: a two-story house in the style of a 16th-century Italian villa, now home to a Haredi girls’ school. The remaining tour is Friday, Oct. 23, at 11:30 a.m.
- The Sephardic Orphanage synagogue in Mashiach Borochoff Alley: built in 1908 by the Borochoff brothers and the Issacharoff family from Bukhara. Open visits run Oct. 22 and 23.
- The Mussayoff compound on Jaffa Road: a late-19th-century family home, synagogue and bank now being restored at the Grand Hotel construction site. Its Open House tours were scheduled for Oct. 16.
- The renovated Bukharian market: a stop on both the Open House palace tour and the Tuesday walking tour.
